How did you get involved in MMA?
-I started MMA as a workout. I had no intention in fighting. The more I did it, the more I liked it and better I became. I had to give it a shot!
What is a typical training week like for you?
-Since I work and go to school I have to schedule all my training around that for now. After class is when I get my weights and cardio in everyday. I hit that hard for about an hour to an hour and a half. After work is when I go to practice and that is from 7-9. Two intense hours! We train everyday but Saturday.
Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you’re fighting and where?
-I am fighting Hannah Zeciri in Fort Smith, Arkansas for Xtreme Fighting Inc.
What is your best experience at a fighter? What is your worst?
-The best experience to me as a fighter is the victory! After you put so much of yourself into something and you have it pay off it is very emotional and satisfying. The worst would definitely have to be when my opponent didn’t show up for a fight. That was a huge bummer. I was so pumped about that fight. It was the first time any of my friends and family was going to really get to see me fight. It was also my 21st birthday and my first cut to 135 lbs which was a hard one. There’s nothing more devastating than that.
What advice would you give to other women who are reading this and want to get started in MMA?
-Get ready for a lifestyle change. If you really want to be successful in MMA it becomes your life, not part of it. This is a fun and surprising sport but it takes hard core dedication as we all know. It’s no joke!
What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?
-Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg are my two main girls! Ronda has an awesome mindset and drive and I love to watch Cyborg kill girls! Cyborg is so powerful and can take a mean hit! That is what I aim for!
In addition to those two who are your favorite MMA fighters?
-Other than those two girls I like Jon Jones. He’s such a talented fighter and stays humble. He’s also sponsored by Nike, which is basically my dream!!
How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?
-I am pretty consumed. When I’m not training I’m usually doing school stuff for now. I always try to go home to my family every week or two. I have to see my mini me, my niece Abby! Other than fighting, she’s my life!
Of course we have a few questions for the male readership as well.
Are you single?
-I recently started dating a guy at our gym actually. (:
What do you look for in a guy?
-Definitely have to be athletic and healthy! A huge thing for me is living a healthy lifestyle. I like them to have somewhat of a religious background. Sense of humor is a must for me! I’m only in serious mode about 10% of the time. Looks aren’t a bad trait either.
What are your turn-ons?
-Someone who can be manly but also have a soft side. I love a secret softy.
What are your turnoffs?
-Cockiness. Eww.
What would you say is your best feature?
-Hmmm, definitely my legs. My body is about 80% legs, haha.
Any future plans or dreams?
-My dream is to make it to the UFC and fight Ronda Rousey! Oh, and also a Nike sponsorship!
Any shout outs you would like to make?
-Definitely to my coach and teammates! Thank you to Jerry Miller, Jeron Miller and Jaymee Jones. Also to my mom for always supporting me although she will never work up the courage to watch me fight. That’s fine with me.
