May 2012 Aspiring MMA Babe of the Month - Sierra Rene

Our May 2012 aspiring MMA babe of the month is Sierra Rene from Cleveland, OH. This stunner is 22 years old, 5'6", 122 lbs and measures 34-25-36. Sierra says her eyes and legs are definitely her best features. She is an accomplished model with numerous print, runway and website credits to her growing resume with her latest being a 2012 international GLOW cover model for Planet Beach Contempo Spa. Along with her budding modeling career she will also be headed back to school this fall for fashion merchandising. Sierra is really big into fitness, likes to clean and enjoys a relaxing night by hitting up a comedy club and some wine. Her turn-ons include a guy that likes to take the lead and knows how to treat a girl but her turnoffs include bad breathe and clingy guys. Sierra's favorite MMA fighter is Anderson 'The Spider' Silva. Sierra did appear as a ring girl once in the past and we thinks its time the MMA world brings her back. Goal oriented, down to earth and always one to put a smile on some one's face, Sierra would be a perfect fit for MMA. Within days of our initial feature on Sierra she was already booked for some local ring carding gigs and landed a feature in the August 2012 issue of Ultimate MMA Magazine hitting news stands in June. For more on Sierra follow her on Twitter @SierraReneXO and vote for Sierra as the next Maxim Hometown Hottie.

May 2012 MMA Babe of the Month – Shannon Ihrke

Our May 2012 MMA babe of the month is MMA ring girl and model Shannon Ihrke. Since meeting this stunner at ProElite MMA last year this former Marine Sergeant has been taking the MMA world by storm. Shannon has worked with ProElite MMA, King of the Cage, Sterling Entertainment, Fight! Magazine, a Hometown Hottie finalist for Maxim Magazine and countless other print, promotional and runway appearances. This blonde bombshell is 5’8”, 120 lbs. and measures 34B-24-34. We recently had the pleasure of reconnecting with our friend Shannon for the interview below.

How did you get into the world of MMA?

-An amazing matchmaker, Mike Camp, thought it would be a good idea for me to enter a ring girl contest for ProElite. I ended up winning the contest and I've been blessed enough to be busy with ring girl jobs ever since!

What were you doing before you became an MMA ring girl and model?

-I just finished my 4-year commitment to the Marine Corps in January. I was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina and 4th Maintenance Battalion, 4th MLG in Rock Island, Illinois. I was an administrative specialist and worked a lot with the finances and legal issues for Marines.

Who are your favorite MMA fighters?

-I'm in love with GSP! I'm also a big fan of Andrei Arlovski, Brian Stann, and Rashad Evans.

What are the strangest and sweetest comments MMA fans have said to you?

-Haha, great question! The marriage proposals are probably the strangest forms of flattery for me! Actually, at the last fight I was at, I was taking pictures with the fans and some lady kept asking me if she could make out with me... awkward! The sweetest comments are from the people that I don't expect, the kids! I love the kids that get excited about the fights!! I had a little girl in Hawaii that called me pretty before a fight and I thought it was just so sweet!

What would your fight name be if you were a fighter?

-My name would definitely have something to do with being a Marine Corps Sergeant.

What is something most people don't know about you?

-Most people don't know: 1) I have a big soft-spot for fast food (Big Macs!), 2) I love public speaking, and 3) I'm just a small-town girl that likes to fish with her dad :)

What are your hobbies and how do you spend your free time?

-I like to be outdoors! I like spending time camping, horseback riding, four-wheeling, and I'm also a true beach bum. I also like trying out new restaurants, traveling, and experiencing different cultures.

Are you single?

-Only until I find a good southern gentlemen ;)

What do you look for in a guy?

-I look for a few things in all people that I surround myself with. I like to be around people that have goals and push themselves. Being around successful people will only push you to be more successful. I love a confident, well-rounded, and sweet man - that's sexy to me! (Of course a six pack with some nice abs doesn't hurt either.)

What are your turn-ons?

-The first things I look at on a guy are their eyes, teeth, and shoes -- you can tell a lot by a guys shoes! I'm a typical tall, dark, and handsome kind of gal. A deep voice and some sort of military background never hurts either. If you have a nerdy side I'll like you even more!

What are your turnoffs?

-Guys that don't know what they want or aren't sure of themselves. How can I be sure about you if you aren't sure about yourself?

What would you say is your best feature?

-Probably my lips.

What are your future plans or dreams in life?

-I'd love to continue to work in the MMA world. It would be a dream to work with Bellator or the UFC!

Any special shout outs or thank you's?

-A big thank you goes out to my family! They are all amazing and have an amazing ability to put up with my craziness. I also have to thank ProElite for believing I could be a great ring girl and King of the Cage and Sterling Entertainment for thinking so as well! I also have to thank Maxim and Fight! Magazine and all the MMA bloggers for constantly keeping me on my toes!

Shannon is always on the move so don’t miss a beat and find her on Facebook under Shannon Ihrke, on Twittter @ShannonIhrke and her new website which launched yesterday. Thank you very much for your time Shannon and hope to see you again soon.

Fighter Babe Lauren Sugihara Returns to the Ring Tomorrow

Fighter babe Lauren Sugihara returns to the kickboxing ring for a title fight tomorrow at Fight To Win Superheroes in Denver, CO. We recently caught up with Lauren to learn more about her background and upcoming fight.

Every now and then we learn about a troubled past saved by the martial arts and help from others and Lauren is one of those amazing ladies fighting her way back. At the age of six Lauren and her sister were brought up solely by their mother after a divorce. A good student who kept out of trouble until she found the troubled crowd her sophomore year of high school and began to party. Lauren went on to become an international model in fashion shows and magazines including an International Playboy Playmate, centerfold and cover girl but she continued her partying ways throughout. Her alcoholism left her often feeling lost, lonely and being dishonest to others while still putting on a happy face to those around her. Eventually Lauren sought help through a 12 step program and has now been sober for many years. Kickboxing was a tremendous help in her progress but the 12 step program ultimately saved her life. As a model the focus was often being as skinny as possible but her body image soon changed when she picked up kickboxing and now she strives to be as functionally athletic as possible. Lauren has recently returned to modeling but now markets herself in the sports and fitness areas. Lauren also shares her story with others to help those with the same problems of alcoholism and the awareness to seek out help. Congratulations on your recovery Lauren and thank you for sharing with us and our readers. Check out the rest of our interview about Lauren’s martial arts background below.

How did you get involved in kickboxing and how long have you been training?

-An ex of mine Brandon Thatch was a kick boxer and introduced me to the sport in 2005.

Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?

-I train with several wonderful coaches, Clarence Thatch (3d Elite), Oscar Martinez (Colorado Muay Thai), Neil Dykins, and Chris Williamson (Conditioning at The Gym). My training consists of five days of kickboxing practice and two days of conditioning and hard sparring.

Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?

-My next fight is on the Fight To Win Superheroes card in Denver, CO on May 19th. I’m fighting Crystal Parrish out of North Carolina. I am super excited! Its K1 rules with no head gear and 12 ounce gloves. I've been working really hard getting ready.

What is your best experience as a fighter? What is your worst?

-I’ll never forget my first fight. The excitement was completely intoxicating. I had a lot of friends and family there and I was recently sober so it was a big accomplishment for me. My worst experience is every fight the few minutes before the fight. The nerves are difficult. Once it begins I’m fine.

What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in kickboxing?

-I would say you are in for the best time of your life. The irony is you'll get to be in the best shape of your life but you won't care how you look anymore if you're anything like me =). It’s wonderful for women mentally and physically, and yes you can do it.

When do you think we will see your debut in MMA?

-That will be when I receive my blue belt so it’s up to my coaches.

What or who are your inspirations in kickboxing, MMA and life?

-My coaches inspire me. They walk the talk. They care about their students and dedicate their lives to the betterment of others. My sister, my mom, and the rest of my family are my safety net. My fiancé inspires me because of the wonderful man he is. He reminds me everyday why life is worth living.

-As far as fighters I love Tara LaRosa, Ronda Rousey (I trained with her a bit in California), and Kat Zingano. They are amazing women and are great examples of what female fighters are capable of.

How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?

-My favorite time is with my family and friends just being together, and eating food. =) I love playing with my fiancés two kids who are 3 and 5. My life has changed a lot from my partying days I guess. LOL, I teach kickboxing at Combat Zone, 303 training Center, and Seasons, and I adore all of my students.

Of course we have a few questions for the male readership as well.

Are you single?

-I'm engaged.

What do you look for in a guy?

-My fiancé is my ideal. He's smart, hilarious, athletic, loving, and honest (best part).

What are your turn-ons?

-Someone tougher than me =)

What are your turnoffs?

-People who are who I used to be before I got sober, dishonest, fake, and manipulative.

What would you say is your best feature?

-Physical would be my long legs. =) Personality wise would be my awkwardness. I’ve learned to like myself.

Any future plans or dreams?

-I hope to be able to take my fighting far and in turn become an inspiration both to women and recovering alcoholics and show them that no matter what, you can make life amazing if you just try.

Any shout outs you would like to make?

-Love to all my coaches, family and friends.

Thank you again Lauren for your time, sharing your story with us and best of luck tomorrow! For those looking to learn more about Lauren, her story or her fighting career reach out to her on Facebook, her DJ Facebook page and on Twitter.
