Fighter Babe Rachael Smith Ready to Throw Down this Saturday

Fighter babe Rachael “The Loaded Gun” Smith (4-1) steps back into the cage this Saturday for the King of the Cage Women’s 115 pound title match and main event in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Eastside Cannery Casino and Hotel. Rachael is a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai (3-2) specialist who currently holds the 115 pound title for Donofrio Promotions in Detroit, Michigan and also the 2011 Thai Boxing Association Ladies 115 pound novice division World Champion. After an 8 month hiatus from fighting to finish nursing school with honors Rachael is back and ready to throw down. We recently caught up with Rachael prior to her return to the cage this Saturday for the interview below to learn a little more about her.

How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?

-I was into fitness in general. I had been weight training and doing cardio kickboxing for a long time, but decided that I wanted to step it up a notch. I tried MMA, Muay Thai and Judo for the first time a little over 4 years ago. The workouts were super intense and I sparred for the first time on my first week there. I got punched in the face and loved it!

Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?

-Currently, I am training at Defend Michigan MMA in Battle Creek, Michigan. I train 6 days a week. During the day, I either go to Crossfit which helps with strength and conditioning or I do a 45 minute cardio routine. At night, I train at the gym doing an hour or so of fight specific training, and then I stay for Jiu-jitsu class which is about an hour and a half. On my day off, I go for a light 2 mile jog and do some shadow boxing.

Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?

-I am fighting for King of the Cage August 31st in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is set to be a title fight and main event. My opponents name is Danielle Taylor (4-0) out of California. I also have another title fight scheduled for September 21st at Total Warrior Combat in Lansing, Michigan. My opponents name for this fight is Kyna Sisson.

What is your best experience as a fighter? What is your worst?

-Hmmmmm, I'd have to say that my best experience was my first fight. I was so nervous. I didn't really know what to expect. I just knew that I had put my heart and soul into training and in the end, it paid off....I won! It was a wonderful feeling to get the reward of all my hard work, and since then, I have been hooked.

-My worst experience, I would have to say was my only loss. I don't exactly consider it as a bad experience because I learned so much from that fight. It was a close 5 round decision that only made me stronger as a fighter.

What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?

-If you want something in life, go for it, especially if you have the opportunity to do it. Life goes by and if you don't go for things in life, you may miss the chance. Then you can look back and say I did it and never wonder what if.

What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?

-Of course, Gina Carano for getting women's MMA started. Watching her is what got me interested in the sport. Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate for getting women's MMA in the spotlight in the UFC.

Who are your favorite MMA fighters?

-Such a hard question, there are so many for so many different reasons. GSP, Ben Henderson, Frankie Edgar to name a few of the guys and as far as women I have always loved to watch Miesha Tate, Zoila Frausto-Gurgel, Megumi Fugii, and now I am enjoying watching Invicta fighters such as Joanne Calderwood, Tecia Torres, and Rose Namajunas. These ladies have been rocking it out lately!!

How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?

-I enjoy spending time with my family. I have a daughter and husband (without the paperwork). They are also involved in Jiu-jitsu, but when we are not doing that, we enjoy going on long bike rides, going to the movies, or anything fun we can find to do. I also enjoy a good night out with my friends that I don't get to see that often anymore.

For those who will inquire we have a couple questions for the male readership as well.

Are you single? (You beat us to this question in the last answer)

-Nope, sorry.

What do you look for in a guy?

-A sense of humor.

What are your turn-ons?

-Someone that can be themselves.

What are your turnoffs?

-Facial hair.

What would you say is your best feature?

-Duh, my guns.....lol.

Lastly before we let you go we would love to hear about your future plans and let you send some shout outs.

Any future plans or dreams?

-To be a World Champion!!!!!!!

Any shout outs you would like to make?

-Yep. Would like to say thanks to everyone that has helped me with my training. Defend has really taken it upon themselves to make sure I am successful in my upcoming fight and I am extremely grateful for that. My coaches John Burt and Paul Bowers. Thanks to my sponsors.....Devil's Outcast M.C. who are a group of war veterans helping me make my way to the top. Awesome group of people!!! No Mercy Apparel, CJ's Pub Kalamazoo, Chads Rings and Cages, Victoria's Kitchen out of Houghton, MI, The Edge Marina in Portage, MI and Fight Matchmakers Inc. Also would like to say thanks to Tim Newnum and my daughter for supporting me through all of this.

Thank you very much for your time Rachael and good luck on fight night! It’s fight week so give your shouts to Rachael on Facebook.

Fighter Babe Molly Wren-Holmes Returns to the Cage this Saturday

Fighter babe Molly Wren-Holmes (2-0) returns to the cage this Saturday at King of the Cage in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Eastside Cannery Casino and Hotel. We recently caught up with Molly prior to her return to the cage this Saturday for the interview below to learn a little more about her.

How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?

-Once high school sports ended the everyday gym routine got old pretty fast. I decided to check out my little brothers MMA gym. The next day I jumped into the fitness kickboxing classes with my mom. Not long after I was hooked. I progressively became more serious about training. I started out with some local grappling tournaments, pankration, kickboxing fights, and eventually had my first MMA bout. I have been training with the team for about two years now.

Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?

-I still train out of The Pit North in Atascadero, California. We train all week and usually take Sundays off. Every day is a little different. I typically do some sort of strength and conditioning workout in the mornings and at night we mix in striking, grappling, wrestling, and more conditioning. Usually some mitt work or other random workouts are incorporated throughout the week to stay well rounded. Oh and of course Bikram yoga :)

Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?

-I am fighting at the Eastside Cannery in Las Vegas, NV for King of the Cage August 31st against Monica Ameng (1-0). I don’t know very much about her and I don’t really care. This will be my third MMA fight and couldn’t be more excited.

What is your best experience as a fighter? What is your worst?

-Tough question. I can’t really think of a horrible experience I’ve had so far. There have been a couple bumps and bruises along the way, but that’s to be expected.

-As far as awesome experiences go, I would probably say my first fight. It was a drawn out anticipated road to the fight and when I finally got in the cage I was able to pick up my first KO against Michelle Gama. It was an indescribable feeling.

What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?

-If you want to try it just do it. You’ll know soon enough if it’s not for you. Nobody will ever tell you it’s easy because it’s not, but if you fall in love with it you’ll find a way to keep going.

What or who are your inspirations in life?

-My family. My mom, dad, little and older brother have made me who I am today. Also, all of my coaches and teammates who go through the same thing I do every day. Those are the people inspire me to keep going.

Who are your favorite MMA fighters?

-Hmm let’s see. Luke Riddering, Castle Williams, Christina Riddering, Casey Noland, Bryan Smith, Antonio Banuelos, Trevor Porter, Josh Johnson. . . and everyone else on my team :) I also like Chael Sonnen, Jessica Penne, GSP, Miesha Tate, and a bunch more.

How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?

-Most of my time outside the gym is spent in school or working for my company, Molly’s Wholesome Products. I am a full time student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I am a food science major and am currently marketing WingFoot Iskiate Chia Seed Drink Mix! I love food, so basically in my free time I study it, make it, sell it, and eat it :) www.chiastuff.com

For those who will inquire we have a couple questions for the male readership as well.

Are you single?

-Nope, Castle Williams is my partner in crime.

What would you say is your best feature?

-Probably my ability to stay focused and manage my time. I’m also really, really funny :)

Lastly before we let you go we would love to hear about your future plans and let you send some shout outs.

Any future plans or dreams?

-I have plenty of plans and dreams, but right now I try to take everything day by day. Of course I plan on finishing school, becoming a champion, and owning a successful business but who doesn’t? I also hope someday someone lists my name as their personal inspiration.

Any shout outs you would like to make?

-First off I would like to thank all of my awesome new and past coaches: Castle Williams, Antonio Banuelos, Kevin Holmes, Luke and Christina Riddering, Casey Noland, Adrian Iriarte, and Bryan Smith. Also to all my teammates who push me every day at practice.

-Shout out to mama and papa bear Leah and Kevin Holmes and my two other inspirations Madison and Michael Holmes. Sponsors! The Barber Shop (Raze the Bar), Chapman Dealers, and WingFoot Iskiate Chia Drink. You are all awesome :) Special thanks to Staci Emmack, what an awesome person and inspiration you are.

Thank you very much for your time and good luck on fight night Molly! Check out Chia Stuff and send your shout outs to Molly on Facebook and Twitter.
