July 2012 MMA Babe of the Month – Natalie Lawrence
How did you get into the world of MMA?
-I attended a casting to meet the head ring girl at Cage Warriors Brookelyn; I had a short interview, some pictures and tried on the ring girl outfit!
What were you doing before you became an MMA ring girl and model?
-Since I was at school I have always done bits of modeling but from school I actually trained as a hairstylist. I then moved to Spain for a bit and then back to London to model!
Who are your favorite MMA fighters?
-I have soo many....I enjoyed watching Kris Edwards at Cage Warriors 48 in London. I'm really looking forward to seeing Sheila Gaff fight again at Cage Warriors. I also like the Diaz brothers in the UFC.
What are the strangest and sweetest comments MMA fans have said to you?
-MMA fans are amazing, especially all our Cage Warriors fans who come to the shows and meet us after for pictures! Brookelyn and I get a lot of lovely comments and support on Facebook and Twitter from fans, never really anything strange just lovely compliments, or requests for us to upload more pictures lol!
What would your fight name be if you were a fighter? Natalie "?" Lawrence
-I find this question soooo hard!! Can you not give me a name?!? What do you guys think?!? Tweet me ideas!! @Natalie_L23
What is something most people don't know about you?
-I'm kinda shy, even though I love being in front of the camera for work. When I'm home or just doing everyday things I'm quite quiet and shy, I don't need to be the center of attention.
What are your hobbies and how do you spend your free time?
-I love to travel and I'm lucky enough to do a lot through work, but when I have free time I love to take trips with my girls. Recently we just went to Ibiza, it was so much fun!! I also love to go out to lovely restaurants and eat good food. I totally have a sweet tooth, I love dessert! Also like any girl I love to shop, shoes and bags are my obsession!
Are you single?
-I am single...but there is someone special who I am just getting to know. I'm very happy right now though!
What do you look for in a guy?
-Someone that can make me laugh! Ambition and drive I find really attractive in a man. Someone that is close to their family and friends. I need someone that wants me for me, not because I model and look a certain way.
What are your turn-ons?
-A sense of humor, ambition, passion, a nice smile and a cute bum.
What are your turnoffs?
-Negativity, laziness, no ambition, arrogance, liars and smelly people.
What would you say is your best feature?
-Ohh I'm not sure, what do you think? I like my eyes and lips...and my hair. I guess most guys compliment on other things lol.
What are your future plans or dreams in life?
-I hope to continue to model and travel the world. Keep working with Cage Warriors! In life I just wish for me, my family and friends to have happy, healthy, successful lives.
Any special shout outs or thank you's?
-Big thank you to Cage Warriors for having me apart of their amazing team! And my gorgeous girl Brookelyn who I met through work and is now an amazing friend to me :) everyone follow her @Brrrookelyn. And of course you guys at Babes of MMA for your support since I became a part of the MMA world. Xx
Thank you too Natalie for your time and support. Follow our July 2012 MMA babe of the month Natalie Lawrence on Facebook and Twitter.

Fighter Babe Jessamyn Duke Makes Her Pro Debut at Invicta FC 2 this Saturday
How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?
-I've been training for six and a half years. I started when I was 19 years old. I joined a local MMA gym for kickboxing classes after I moved to Richmond, KY to go college here. At first I had no desire to compete, but I was totally obsessed with training. I competed in my first grappling tournament after I had only been training for three months. After that experience, I had been "bitten by the bug". I continued to compete in grappling and after a year and a half I had my very first Muay Thai fight. After that I knew that fighting in the ring was for me. Two years later, in 2010, I made my amateur MMA debut.
Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?
-I train at the AFS Academy in Richmond, KY. A typical training week for me consists of grappling, Muay Thai, and MMA classes on the weeknights, with extra sparring, drilling, and free rolling on the weekends. In between, I have conditioning circuits a couple times a week, weightlifting, sprints, and long runs for endurance. All of these areas of my training are adjusted depending on where I am in my camp at the moment though.
Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?
-My next fight is July 28th in Kansas City on the Invicta FC 2 card where I'll be making my professional debut. I'll be fighting Suzie Montero who is 1-0.
What is your best experience as a fighter? What is your worst?
-While winning is an incredible feeling, and I maintain that there is NOTHING else like it, I have to say that my best and worst experiences as a fighter are actually the same thing. I have two losses as an amateur, and that experience did more for me as an athlete, fighter, and a person than anything else I've done in my career. Not only did it produce physical changes, but what was most beneficial were the mental changes. You cannot truly appreciate and understand victory and how to attain it without first experiencing defeat. I am grateful for the lessons I learned in my losses because they have made me ten times the fighter I was.
What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?
-Find a reputable gym, do your research, and build a solid foundation. Don't train just to fight. Fight as a result of your training.
What are some of the hurdles that you think Women in MMA need to overcome before Women's MMA will be considered a top level sport like Men's MMA is today?
-There are many obstacles facing women in this sport. The biggest is depth. We need more women fighting so that more experience can be gained at the lower levels. Women struggle to get consistent fights and they often end up in deep waters without enough experience to perform at the fight level. When more and more women begin to fight, the bar will be raised because the competition level will be raised. It’s already happening and you can see the change in quality in female fighters. When that happens, then promotions everywhere start wanting female fights on their card. It all helps women's MMA grow and flourish.
When do you think we will see women divisions in the UFC?
-Soon. There is enough interest in female fighters now to have occasional female fights.
What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?
-My coach, Scott Elliott, is the biggest driving force in my life and my career. He expects nothing but the best from me and demands it every day. He believes in me more than anyone else and is committed to helping me achieve my goals of one day becoming the number one ranked female fighter in the world. He was diagnosed with level 4 melanoma when I first joined the gym and I watched him fight it for over a year and win. After seeing that, it really does make you believe that anything is possible and no challenge is too great.
Who are your favorite MMA fighters?
-Kaitlin Young, Cyborg Santos, and GSP are definitely my top three.
How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?
-I love reading and video games. I'm kind of a nerd sometimes.
Of course we have a few questions for the male readership as well.
Are you single?
-Nope, sorry guys! I’ve been in a committed relationship for six years :)
What do you look for in a guy?
-Someone that is committed to being the best at whatever profession they choose, and a guy that isn't afraid to speak his mind and stand up for what he believes in.
What are your turn-ons?
-Guys that are very good at whatever it is that they do
What are your turnoffs?
-Bad hygiene, laziness, and being all bark and no bite.
Any future plans or dreams?
-One day becoming the number one ranked female fighter in the world and then, after that, becoming a great teacher. Right behind my passion for fighting is my passion for teaching.
Any shout outs you would like to make?
-I want to thank all of my sponsors for my upcoming fight! Polanti Watches, Klench Kustome Mouthguards, Vii A.D., Intimidation Fightwear, Goodman Photography, Horsepower Strength and Conditioning, Splitlip Fightwear, Tussle Fightwear, Brawl Base, and Fight Soap.
Thank you very much for the great interview Jessamyn and will look forward to your pro debut this Saturday at Invicta FC 2. For more on Jessamyn please visit her website, Facebook and Twitter pages along with her highlight video on YouTube and her training academy AFS Academy.

Fighter Babe Bethany Marshall Returns to the Cage on Saturday
How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?
-I started training Muay Thai in 2004. My cousin Sarah told me about this gym that offered Muay Thai classes and asked me to go with her. I was looking for something to keep me active and in shape, then fell in love with it. I started training submission grappling about a year later, and had my first MMA fight in 2006. Haven't looked back since!
Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?
-I train with Modern American MMA in Yorktown VA (or the MAMMA's Boys). I train twice a day Monday thru Friday and Sunday mornings. I alternate running and swimming every day. I also do Yoga as often as I can fit it in.
Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?
-I am fighting Barb Honchak on July 28th for Invicta Fighting Championships at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS. It will be streaming live online for free! http://invictafc.com/.
What is your best experience as a fighter? What is your worst?
-Best: Last week a mom at my gym said that her daughter has an autographed photo of me hanging up by her dresser, and she always talks about how much she wants to be like me. It was very humbling.
-Worst: Training hard for a fight for 11 weeks and having it cancelled the day before weigh-ins.
What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?
-Go for it! Work hard. Find a gym and a coach who has your best interest in mind.
What are some of the hurdles that you think Women in MMA need to overcome before Women's MMA will be considered a top level sport like Men's MMA is today?
-Exposure is the main thing. I love everything Invicta is doing to help raise awareness and the demand for Women's MMA. I'm proud to play a part, and I wish them great success!
When do you think we will see women divisions in the UFC?
-It's only a matter of time. Thanks to the hard work and efforts of many fighters, Women's MMA is quickly gaining momentum and popularity.
What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?
-My family.
Who are your favorite MMA fighters?
-Ronda Rousey, Tara LaRosa, Miesha Tate, Cris Cyborg, Alexis Davis.....the list goes on!
How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?
-Yoga, reading, gardening, cooking and hanging out with friends, family and my dogs.
Of course we have a few questions for the male readership as well.
Are you single?
-No, very happy in my relationship :)
What do you look for in a guy?
-Good Heart, kind, and intelligent.
What are your turn-ons?
-I like a nice back and smile.
What are your turnoffs?
-Smoking and arrogance.
Any future plans or dreams?
-I have so many! I plan to fight for as long as possible. I'm currently writing a book on WMMA which has been picked up by a NY Publisher, due to be released in 2013. I'd also love to own an MMA gym in the future.
Any shout outs you would like to make?
-Yes! My team at Modern American MMA, my coaches and team are seriously awesome! My sponsors: Polonti Watches, VIIAD Jewelry, Get Some XTreme Wear, Brawl Base, Fight Chix, SplitLip Fight Wear, Klench Custom MouthGuards. Thanks for their generous support!

Fighter Babe Katy Collins Returns to the Cage on Friday
How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?
-Well, I've been watching UFC/MMA avidly since TUF 1 I'd say and that definitely had an influence on me! Just watching it gets me pumped! Last year my younger brother started fighting and I would be so pumped and mad after his fights (I still don't like the thought of someone putting their hands on him even though I know it IS MMA and its gonna happen) haha but it would have me so amped up to see all that so after a fight of his in July of last year (@ShoFight) I told the promoter JT Tilley that I wanted to fight! I was on the card in August, won by RNC in 42 seconds with no previous training and I've been training and fighting with Konvix Fight Team out of West Plains, MO ever since!
Where are you currently training?
-KONVIX Fight Team! A team consisting of Josch Edgington, Brandese Powell, Herbert (Bubba) Morgan (my younger brother), Briannah Conatser (sister) – It’s a secret... oooh!
Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?
-July 27th, 2012 in Tulsa, OK against undefeated Kathina Catron!
What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?
-Go for it! That's the only advice I think I can give! That's all you CAN do! STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF AND DON'T LET ANYBODY TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN'T DO IT!
When do you think we will see women divisions in the UFC?
-Sooner rather than later I hope! Haha.
What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?
-Honestly, everybody around me who supports and believes in me! They inspire me every day to become a better person and fighter!
Who are your favorite MMA fighters?
-Duane BANG! Ludwig and Miesha Tate.
How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?
-Haha I am a Topps Cards NERD! Especially for BANG's items!
Of course we have a few questions for the male readership as well.
What do you look for in a guy?
-GOTTA BE FUN, have a sense of humor, and not be surprised by ANYTHING that comes out of my mouth!
What are your turn-ons?
-A sense of humor is definitely a must. I love to laugh!
What are your turnoffs?
-Jealousy and dirty fingernails and/or toenails, eww!
What would you say is your best feature?
-Physically I'd say my eyes or my right hand! Haha I think my best feature is my personality. I love to have fun and I'm very outgoing!
Any future plans or dreams?
-Too many to answer that question!
Any shout outs you would like to make?
-Shout out to anybody reading this! Thanks for wanting to get to know ME a little better and thanks for ALL of the awesome support! :)
