How did you get into the world of MMA?

-Pretty much just working and dreaming; now I’m doing it!

Who are your favorite MMA fighters?

-Antonio Silvia and Josh Barnett.

What are the sweetest comments MMA fans have said to you?

-They write these really sweet poems to me!

What would your fight name be if you were a fighter? Laura "?" Moro

-Nah, it would probably be like Foxy Lou. Haha, I don’t know I’ve never thought about that one.

What is something most people don't know about you?

-I am really a very sweet person and will talk to anyone if they'd just come start up a conversation.

How do you spend your free time?

-I love swimming and paintball wars.

Are you single?

-Nope taken.

What do you look for in a guy?

-Charm, a good sense of humor, and loyalty.

What are your turn-ons?

-I would have to say beside sexiness it would be a good sense of humor! If you can make me truly laugh then that’s really good.

What are your turnoffs?

-Ugh talking about yourself too much, laziness, and being too needy.

What would you say is your best feature?

-My booty and my eyes.

What are your future plans or dreams in life?

-Mainly to be successful at everything I pursue whatever it may be at the time. To graduate and have my degree as well, sometimes it seems like it takes forever!

Fighter Babe Rose Namajunas Returns to the Cage on Saturday

Fighter babe Rose Namajunas returns to the cage this Saturday to take on Jen Aniano in Lac du Flambeau, WI at King of the Cage. We recently had the pleasure of connecting with this rising star for the interview below.

How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?

-I’ve always been involved with sports ever since I could remember. Being an athlete runs in the family, my grandfather was a Lithuanian champion wrestler and my aunt was a pro basketball player etc. I started martial arts (Karate/Taekwondo) when I was four and started wrestling, kickboxing, and bjj in high school. One thing led to another and now here I am 3-0 in mma.

Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?

-I train at Greg Nelson's gym the Academy in Minneapolis, MN. Fighter training is live wrestling, bjj and sparring Monday through Saturday in the mornings. I also drill technique in the evenings Monday through Wednesday as well as strength and conditioning.

Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?

-I will be fighting an amateur bout at 115 lbs against Jen Aniano on June 30th in Lac du Flambeau, WI at King of the Cage.

What is your best experience as a fighter? What is your worst?

-My best experiences with fighting have to be all the things I've learned about myself and discovering things I never thought I could do. My worst experiences as a fighter are when you wake up on a certain day and you give up mentally. The nerves before a fight are almost as bad of a feeling.

What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?

-Just get in the gym and start training. Get as much experience as you can and knowledge of the sport. There's no rush. Regardless of what people say women's MMA isn't going anywhere. It's here to stay.

What are some of the hurdles that you think Women in MMA need to overcome before Women's MMA will be considered a top level sport like Men's MMA is today?

-Women need to dedicate everything to it. If you're a professional female fighter and not taking it serious, you're not helping you're just hurting us who do take it seriously. Depth is important but the quality of the female fighters is even more important.

When do you think we will see women divisions in the UFC?

-It used to seem that women in the UFC were light years away from ever happening but we are seeing drastic improvements in the divisions so you never know. Hopefully I may still be young enough and active in the sport long enough to see the day!

What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?

-All my coaches, teammates, family, and friends inspire me every day. I think a lot about my mom and my grandmother’s who raised me when I was little. I really look up to them and they mean the world to me.

Who are your favorite MMA fighters?

-Clay Guida.

How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?

-I love to go outside! Anything that deals with nature and animals I'm into. I also played jazz and classical piano as long as I've been doing martial arts. I also was on the basketball, cross country, and track team in high school. I enjoy drawing, singing, reading, watching movies, just not taking naps. I don't like taking naps!

Of course we have a few questions for the male readership as well.

Are you single?

-NOPE!

What do you look for in a guy?

-Just be good to your woman that's number one. Be a man. All other things are a plus. But definitely being athletic, smart, funny and sweet helps!

What are your turn-ons?

-Showing decency and humanity. Show respect and compassion for one another.

What are your turnoffs?

-Cheating and lying about who you really are.

What would you say is your best feature?

-Keepin it real.

Any future plans or dreams?

-To be the best female mixed martial artist the world has seen! After fighting, if the opportunity presents itself I would really enjoy the entertainment business. I used to model when I was younger but acting was always something I wanted to try.

Any shout outs you would like to make?

-PAT HD BARRY IS THE BESTEST!!!! Greg Nelson is awesome! Kaitlin Young and all the other strong dudes at the academy that throw me around at practice! And my mom for being there for me since forever! Oh and my brother for recently graduating college!

Good luck on fight night and thank you for your time Rose! For more on Rose check out this highlight video and send your shout out’s to her on Twitter @rosenamajunas.

Fighter Babe Jenna Fox Returns to the Cage on Saturday

Fighter babe Jenna “Foxy Lady” Fox (4-0) returns to the cage this Saturday to take on Brittany O'Day at East Peoria Throwdown. This 20 year old fighter grew up in a tiny town in Illinois and just finished her second year of college. As a child and in high school she was definitely thought of as a “good girl”. Jenna played volleyball, some basketball and ran track in Jr. High and high school but never the star. No one took her serious when she said she wanted to fight MMA and look at her now. Living a half hour from her hometown in another small town she is slowly making her way towards bigger things. In addition to her studies and training, Jenna is also a waitress and studying to get her personal training certification. Always working on something but her true passion is MMA with a goal to make it big one step at a time! We recently had the pleasure of catching Jenna for a few minutes of her time for the questions and answers below as she prepares for battle on Saturday.

How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?

-I got involved with MMA because one of my guy friends had been training for awhile and I'd always thought it would be cool to try a combat sport (then I was mainly interested in a good workout) so he took me to the gym. Within a week I was hooked and knew I wanted to fight. My family was not okay with that at the time and I moved out not long after I turned eighteen because I was determined to follow my dream. I've been training for two years now and I'm 4-0. My family is so much more comfortable with it now and is very supportive.

Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?

-I train at Central Illinois Combat Club in Canton IL under Bob Long at Kuk Sool Won in Galesburg with Ashley Sanchez, and at GYAC Boxing in Galesburg with Carlos Duncan. I typically train boxing two days a week, kickboxing and BJJ two days a week, MMA once a week, along with additional cardio and lifting workouts about four days a week.

Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?

-My fight will be at East Peoria Throwdown at the East Peoria Event Center (IL). I will be fighting Brittany O'Day at 145 pounds. My focus is on my game plan and not hers; I plan to be the aggressor and will use any of my many skills to beat her.

What is your best experience as a fighter? What is your worst?

-My best experience as a fighter if I had to pick just one, it would be after my second fight. I won by TKO and won fight of the night; an adorable little girl came up to me and wanted her picture taken with me. She thought I was so cool! It made me feel really good to have that little girl look up to me for being strong.

-My worst experience would have to be cutting weight for my last fight, it was my first time dropping to 125 and it was supposed to be a title fight and for various reasons I didn't quite make it. I cut weight all day in the sauna and the gym, busted my ass and had to be carried out to weigh-ins. I was criticized for that and I didn't get that belt. I still won and I learned something from it, so really it was worth it in the end but it sucked.

What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?

-Do it! Find a good, trustworthy coach and start training. Start small if you have to. Be kind to your body, don't try to crash diet or starve yourself as it will backfire in the end. I believe MMA can do so much for a woman's mind, body, and spirit. It really helps build confidence along with improved health and fitness. I also really believe every woman whether they want to fight or not should be able to defend themselves.

What are some of the hurdles that you think Women in MMA need to overcome before Women's MMA will be considered a top level sport like Men's MMA is today?

-For one, volume. Although women's MMA is growing, there are still way fewer women than men in the sport. We need to encourage other women that they can be strong too! Also, women's MMA just needs to be promoted more. I think things such as the new promotion Invicta Fighting Championships could really do great things for the sport. We ladies need to get our names out there and show everyone what we're made of.

When do you think we will see women divisions in the UFC?

-It's hard to say. With all the Tate-Rousey hype, progress was made. Dana White was quoted as saying if there were more females out there like Tate and Rousey there was a chance. That's a start at least. I guess the women of MMA just need to show Dana White that we can create fireworks and draw a huge crowd, and I think he would be likely to give in.

What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?

-My teammate and trainer Ashley Sanchez is a big inspiration to me. She's tough but always positive, always working towards a goal, and she loves helping people. She's a great teacher and fighter, and she's raising two beautiful girls at the same time! Amazing!

Who are your favorite MMA fighters?

-Picking favorites is so hard. Miesha Tate, Felice Herrig, Ronda Rousey, Vitor Belfort, Urijah Faber...the list is endless. I look up to all of them and try to learn from them because that's where I want to be someday.

How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?

-Eating! Haha, just kidding (sorta). I watch a lot of movies, read a lot of books, occasionally I like to get crafty and sew or make something. I love to bake but I find it hard not to eat everything I make so I try to save that for special occasions.

Of course we have a few questions for the male readership as well.

Are you single?

-Nope, and my man is a fighter too so don't bother challenging him for me ;)

What do you look for in a guy?

-Someone who is caring, affectionate, and not afraid to be goofy, also someone who's not afraid of commitment.

What would you say is your best feature?

-My eyes and my booty.

Any future plans or dreams?

-My dream is to fight professionally. Everyone says you should have a job you love, and I love MMA. I can't think of anything better than getting paid to train and fight. I'll work for that every day until I achieve it.

Any shout outs you would like to make?

-First I want everyone to know that I'm dedicating this fight to my uncle Norm, who recently lost his fight with cancer. I'll be fighting for him in there.

-Also I'd like to thank my sponsors, they've waited patiently for this next fight and I am so grateful for everything they've done for me: Ultimate Takedown, www.gymbooty.com, Grit Mouthguards, Phoenix Tattoo Studio, AJH Photography, Diffusion Hair Studio, Fight Chix, and CatFight Gear.

-My family, friends and my boyfriend Joseph also deserve a shout out because they deal with me daily, help me whenever I need it, and are completely understanding of the sacrifices I make to reach my goals.

Thank you very much for your time and good luck on fight night Jenna! For more on Jenna check out her Facebook and Twitter pages.

Fighter Babe Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres Returns to the Cage on Saturday

Fighter babe Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres (5-0) returns to the cage this Saturday to take on Ashley Greenway (3-0) at U.S. Freedom Fighter Championship in Marion, NC. Tecia is a 22 year old college graduate (B.S. Criminal Justice & Sociology) and a Mixed Martial Artist. She lives in South Florida and trains at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, FL. Tecia fights Muay Thai and MMA. Her goal and dream are to be the best she can personally be and make it to the top, thru hard work, determination, faith, and skill. We recently caught up with Tecia for a few minutes to learn more about her background and fighting career for the interview below.

How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?

-I first got involved with martial arts in 1995, at age 5 with Karate. I trained with Sensei Fred Davis for 12 years; I received my Black Belt from him. Before MMA I was a kick boxer, I had 17 fights and won 3 amateur world titles. I just recently started MMA in September of 2011. Since then I’ve become 5-0 and earned my first MMA 115 lb. title. Altogether I have trained Muay Thai 4 years, bjj 3.5, and MMA for 1.5 years.

Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?

-Currently I’ve been training at American Top Team under coaches Ricardo Liborio and Rian Gittman. I work full-time so most of my training is done at night. Monday and Wednesday I train bjj and wrestling, Tuesday and Thursday MMA and sparring and on Fridays and Saturdays technique and private training along with sparring.

Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?

-June 23rd I will be fighting Ashley Greenway 3-0 for the 115 lb amateur MMA U.S Freedom Fighters Title in North Carolina as the Co-Main event. Following this I will fight July 16th locally in West Palm Beach, FL vs. Amber Stautzenberger (4-2) for the 115 lbs American Battleship Title as the Main Event.

What is your best experience as a fighter? What is your worst?

-My best experience was my trip to Dublin, Ireland last November 2011!! It was my first time out of the country and I got to meet fighters from all over the world at the WAKO world championships of kickboxing. What an experience it was. My worst experience is showing up to a fight and no opponent ever came which has happened more than once.

What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?

-My advice to other women looking to begin training would be to research and try out a few gyms first before signing up just anywhere. Once you find your home, start simple. I would recommend standup (Muay Thai) because that’s where the fight begins. Take it slow, once you've got become situated with your standup begin incorporating bjj and wrestling into your game. I would definitely recommend doing some Muay Thai or kickboxing bouts before you step into an MMA cage, experience is experience. Compete locally at tournaments. The worst thing a fighter can do is rush into something, whether it be to make money or because someone else is pushing them. You know your limits, listen to your heart.

What are some of the hurdles that you think Women in MMA need to overcome before Women's MMA will be considered a top level sport like Men's MMA is today?

-Hurdles, Women's MMA needs more shows willing to put out the money to fly in women fighters and pay them accordingly. With the growth of the sport and new promotions like INVICTA <3, an all Pro Female based production, WMMA is available for all to see and this is what we need, more exposure and sponsorships. Also Invicta's recent collaboration with JEWELS, Japan's WMMA, allows an International spread of women!

When do you think we will see women divisions in the UFC?

-I'm not sure if there will ever be a women's division in the UFC but I definitely think that ZUFFA, if not already will see the potential of WMMA and its money, marketing, entertainment value and somehow take part in buying some type of ownership. I personally think it can only benefit WMMA, bigger sponsorships means more money to the deserving fighters and more exposure with TV, etc.

What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?

-My inspirations in MMA are each and every other WMMA fighter out there. It takes a lot of courage and strength as a woman to step into a cage and be willing to "throw-down" with someone. I look up to many different fighters for different reasons. My life inspirations are God, himself, for anything is possible with him by my side. My mom for telling me she loves me every day of my being and pushing me to make a better life for myself.

Who are your favorite MMA fighters?

-My favorite male MMA fighters are Jose Aldo and Anderson Silva. Females, I appreciate all of them but If I could take certain things from them it would be Ronda Rousey's Judo, Megumi Fugii’s foot and ankle Locks, Cris Cyborg and Zoila Frausto’s standup and Sara McMann and Carla Esparza’s wrestling.

How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?

-In my free time I like to relax on the beach, movie nights at home, and spending time with my family. I really enjoy the theater, comedy clubs, and zoos. I don't party, I’ve never ever drank or smoked, or done drugs. I live a pretty simple life.

Of course we have a few questions for the male readership as well.

What do you look for in a guy?

-Respect, honesty, physically fit, secure in themselves, a job, educated, goals and a non-smoker. Good looks don’t hurt!! =)

What are your turn-ons?

-A great smile.

What are your turnoffs?

-Disrespect.

What would you say is your best feature?

-My arms. They have always been pretty defined and toned.

Any future plans or dreams?

-My future plans in regards to MMA are to be the best fighter I can be. I want to make my way to the top and I will do everything I can possibly do to make it there. I’d love to branch out and start doing some promotional things such as fitness modeling and TV. As far as career wise, I’d like to use my degree and work for some type of government agency one day. I’d like to start a nonprofit one day geared toward young female adolescents that would promote a healthy lifestyle through fitness, faith and education. I wish I could do everything at once, but I will take it one step at a time.

Any shout outs you would like to make?

-In no particular order but trying to be chronological. God, my Mother, my family, Fred Davis, Larry Borden, Team Popovitch, Knuckleup Fitness, Tussle, South Florida Fight Club, my Fans, my friends and ATT American Top Team.

Thank you for your time Tecia and best of luck on fight night and your career aspirations. For the latest on The Tiny Tornado visit her Facebook page.
