Babes of MMA Sponsored Fighter Angela Jennings Returns to the Cage this Saturday
Fighter babe Angela Jennings (1-3) returns to the cage this Saturday for Donofrio MMA/Impact Fight League 58: Brawl in the Fall at the Fillmore Theatre in Detroit, Michigan seeking the Women’s 125 lb title. We recently caught up with Angela prior to her big title fight this Saturday for the interview below to learn a little more about her.
How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?
-I have been an athlete all my life, whether I was playing basketball, volleyball, track, or power lifting. I was always a daddy’s girl and watching UFC on TV, then one day I went and watched a MMA show live, and at that moment I knew and I said to myself, “I have to do this”.
Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?
-I currently train out of Flint, Michigan with Ultimate Fighting Academy (UFA) and my coach is Andre Garcia. I am usually in the gym 5-6 days a week, sometimes twice a day depending on my training camps and upcoming fights.
Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?
-I am fighting November 2nd at the Fillmore in Detroit, Michigan. I will be fighting Katelyn Dykas for the 125 lb title belt for Motor City’s premier mixed-martial-arts promotional company, Donofrio MMA and the Impact Fight League.
What has been your best experience as a fighter so far?
-My best experience as a fighter would have to be my cage debut in May of 2013. Although I had a late notice for the fight (24hours) and it was against a very tough opponent, I didn’t come out with the win but I learned a lot and had a great experience and really learned what I am capable of as a Mixed Martial Artist.
What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?
-My advice to other women who want to start MMA would be, this sport is 90% mental, and if you are not mentally strong you won’t last. Fighting in MMA is not a part-time job, it’s FULL-TIME. But on the other hand, I encourage woman to get involved in MMA. A lot of women don’t realize that if you train MMA it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to get in a cage and fight! I love to see woman do it for fitness along with self-defense and a hobby. It teaches you great discipline and life lessons.
What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?
-My biggest inspiration in MMA and 100% in my life would have to be God. But one of my other inspirations would have to be my childhood hero Mr. Schwarzenegger.
How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?
-In my free time as a fighter I love to nap! At least that is when I get free time (LOL). But other than that I enjoy singing, and music. It has always been a passion of mine. I also enjoy the lake life. I love anything to do with water! I grew up on a lake so whether it’s wakeboarding or sunbathing I’m in love. Besides that I am also a BIG movie buff, love going to and watching movies.
For those who will inquire we have a couple questions for the male readership as well.
Are you single?
-Yes. I am single, but am I really available?
What do you look for in a guy?
-What do I look for in a guy? Well I would have to say I love a guy with confidence, YET humble. I also kind of have a thing for guys with a nerdy side.
What are your turn-ons?
-I love a guy with a great smile, and pure eyes.
What are your turnoffs?
-Haha, guys that…, “TRAIN UFC BRO!” Smoking is definitely a turnoff! It’s like kissing an ashtray!
What would you say is your best feature?
-Physically? Well that’s a tough one, but over-all feature, I would like to think my honesty. I am a very honest person. I was brought up to be truthful, whether it’s my family, friends or significant other.
Lastly before we let you go we would love to hear about your future plans and let you send some shout outs.
Any future plans or dreams?
-As of now, I am focusing on my MMA career and I plan on taking that somewhere and eventually going pro. But, in the meantime I have my associate’s degree in basic sciences and may one day pursue a career in the Air Force.
Any shout outs you would like to make?
-I would like to thank my coach Andre Garcia for taking me on as a student, coaching, training me and being by my side every step of the way. I of course have to thank my family for ALWAYS supporting me in everything thing I do including being very helpful, and compassionate in my MMA career. Also, my dad. He has always been my biggest fan and supporter, raising me to be the athlete I am today. Lastly I would love to thank my sponsors: Teaser's of Flint, Michigan for all their support, along with Bull Terriers of Michigan and last BUT certainly NOT least, Babes of MMA!
Thank you very much for your time Angela, glad to have you on the Babes of MMA team and good luck on fight night! Click here to purchase tickets to Angela’s fight and send your shout outs to her on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!

Fighter babe Nadia Nixon makers her pro MMA debut this Friday for Shamrock FC: Conquest in Kansas City, Missouri. We recently caught up with Nadia prior to her big debut this Friday for the interview below to learn a little more about her.
How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?
-I was introduced to martial arts in early 2009 at the School Of Martial and Meditative Arts (SOMMA) as an alternative to regular workouts.
Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?
-My home gym is SOMMA out of Topeka, Kansas and KCBJJ out of Kansas City, Missouri. Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings are my strength and conditioning workout with my personal trainer Aaron Harrison, rest for a couple hours then pick it up at SOMMA between 2 to 4 hours. Tuesday and Thursday mornings at KCBJJ, rest for a couple hours then back at SOMMA for 2 to 3 hours. Saturday will be open mat sparring, grappling between SOMMA, Ultimate MMA Blue Corner in Kansas City, or Impact Elite MMA.
Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?
-I will have my pro MMA debut November first versus Sharice Davids for Shamrock FC: Conquest in Kansas City, Missouri at Harrah’s Casino. I’m very excited as it’s both of our pro debuts and my opponent is very respectful and talented as well at 115 lbs.
What is your best experience as a fighter? What is your worst?
-I look at training like studying for a test, and fight days are the actual test day where you put everything you learned and worked for together. Meeting new people and making friends along the way is great too.
What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?
-I have said it before and can’t stress it enough but find a good gym and people who will be honest with you. Push and test yourself. The sky is the limit!
What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?
-Of course my coaches have my utmost respect; I have idols as well such as Lyoto Machida who applied his traditional martial arts into MMA perfectly.
Who are your favorite MMA fighters?
-Lyoto Machida is my favorite MMA fighter for being so talented and respectful.
How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?
-I like to spend some time on my own to reflect and think, and also with my cat Chip.
For those who will inquire we have a couple questions for the male readership as well.
Are you single?
-Happily married.
What do you look for in a guy?
-Honesty and a sense of humor.
What are your turn-ons?
-Being there to help others, especially people close to me and be a part of seeing their dreams come true. Helping my friends lift up some of their burdens and be there for them as much as I can.
What are your turnoffs?
-People who are selfish and look for the spotlight.
What would you say is your best feature?
-LOL! I don't know you might have to ask one of my friends!
Lastly before we let you go we would love to hear about your future plans and let you send some shout outs.
Any future plans or dreams?
-Just to name few, to be one of the best MMA fighters worldwide, compete again at IBJJF and win it next year and to donate as much time as I can to help animals in need.
Any shout outs you would like to make?
-First and foremost to the first person who believed in me and been by my side from day one and will always be with me on my martial arts and MMA career, Sensei Steve Twemlow. Thank you to Dr. Stewart Twemlow and my school, School Of Martial and Meditative Arts, my awesome BJJ teacher Jason Bircher and the guys and gals at KCBJJ, my great manager Benjamin Nougearas, and my new sponsor Title MMA.

October 2013 MMA Babe of the Month – Jessica Sutton
Our October 2013 MMA babe of the month is MMA World Series of Fighting (WSOF) ring card girl Jessica Sutton! This 27 year old knockout is 5’2”, 112 lbs, measures 34DD-24-35 and calls Las Vegas, Nevada home. Jessica previously ring carded for Golden Gloves Boxing and has been featured in Fight! Magazine and Ultimate MMA Magazine with her fellow WSOF ring card girls. Outside the world of MMA Jessica is an accomplished model, hairstylist and cocktail server. Keep on reading below to find out what else we learned about our October 2013 MMA babe of the month Jessica Sutton.
How did you get into the world of MMA?
-My brother Nicholas is the one that introduced me to this incredible sport. Aside from watching any fight one could conceivably imagine, he also showcased his respect for the sport by wearing MMA apparel along with being actively involved in Jiu-Jitsu; however I seldom watch television so for me my first genuine glimpse of MMA was my debut for World Series of Fighting. I have to say I was blown away by how much I actually enjoyed and appreciated watching the sport; furthermore I feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to partake in the magic that occurs within that cage. I remember being so enthralled in one of the fights that I almost grabbed the wrong round ring card!
What were you doing before you became an MMA ring girl and model?
-When I first moved to Vegas I dealt cards in a party pit at Planet Hollywood. Shortly after, I got hired as model cocktail server at two of the best day clubs in the city. Prior to that I was actually living in upstate NY and working in a salon as a hair stylist. As you know from the previous feature I also manage rental properties in upstate NY.
Who are your favorite MMA fighters?
-I love fighters that have a story to tell. There is a fire lit within them that burns through their fighting. It’s difficult to pick favorites but to mention a few: Anthony Rumble Johnson is one of the sweetest guys that I have ever met outside the cage and to flip the switch he is an absolute powerhouse when he is fighting. I've witnessed those knockouts and geez I would not want to be one of his opponents! Nick Newell has obviously overcome a lot of obstacles which he has done with both grace and poise. He is on a mission and I’m excited to see him gain momentum. Marlon Moraes is always great to watch too. He is so compact that he is able to maneuver quickly and precisely. I really could go on and on. To mention one more though, Alexander Gustaffson is a beast and wow does he have stamina. That fight between him and Jon Jones had me screaming at the television!
What are the strangest and sweetest comments MMA fans have said to you?
-Someone approached me and actually said that I was an inspiration. In my opinion that is the best compliment anyone could receive. At the same time it took me back though. I have always encouraged people to chase their dreams. It’s imperative to me because I know that if not for the people that pushed and guided me, I would not be in the position that I am. When someone you have never met tells you that you did that for them, wow, there are no words.
What would your fight name be if you were a fighter? Jessica "?" Sutton
-Jessica “The Jack Hammer” Sutton.
What is something most people don't know about you?
-I lost my mother in a car accident 7 years ago.
What are your hobbies and how do you spend your free time?
-I love DIY projects. I literally will YouTube or Google any project and try to do it myself. I recently ripped up and retiled my bathroom floor which involved me also taking out the toilet. I also hung and wired all the ceiling fans in my house, swapped out a few recessed lights, epoxied the garage floor, and jack-hammered a fence out of my back yard (hence my fighter name). ;)
Are you single?
-I have actually been with the same guy since high school. We took a few breaks here and there but somehow we manage to always find our way back to each other.
What do you look for in a guy?
-There are many guys out in the world, but it truly takes someone with specific qualities encompassed by an unstoppable drive for their life which entices my attention. I find it of high importance to be with someone who is exceptionally motivated to be ambitious, prosperous and successful while possessing the ability to preserve a healthy balance between family and work.
What are your turn-ons?
-Ambition, work ethic, a sense of humor, empathy and the ability to stay humble.
What are your turnoffs?
-Ego, ego, ego and the lack of consideration for others.
What would you say is your best feature?
-My honey brown eyes, some say they glow.
What are your future plans or dreams in life?
-Ultimately I want what everyone wants, which is to be happy. I’m looking forward to settling down and raising a family. Hopefully between now and then I can make a difference in this world; however big or small of an impact that may be.
Any special shout outs or thank you's?
-I am thankful for each and every person that has entered my life, both good and bad. It is through the challenges and struggles that I have conquered that I found strength. It is through triumph and success that I found confidence. Both of those attributes have made such an impact on my quality of life.
Thank you very much for your time Jessica and glad to have you back on Babes of MMA! For more on our October 2013 MMA babe of the month Jessica Sutton check her out on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Jessica and her fellow WSOF ring card girls will be in action tomorrow night at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Florida starting at 6 PM ET and then live on NBC Sports starting at 9 PM ET.

Liana Tunmer's ECC Banned 1 Battle Revisited
On October 12th Babes of MMA sponsored fighter Liana "True Blood" Tunmer stepped back into the cage for her second amateur MMA fight at Extreme Cage Championships - Banned 1 in Blackpool, Lancashire, England. Although the result did not go Liana's direction and was ruled a split decision it was a well fought battle between Liana and her opponent Bryony Tyrell. Click here to see the full fight and click here for more pictures captured by photographer Mark Watson. Send your shout outs to Liana on Instagram and Twitter as she prepares for her next battle this December.
